Do you blog?
If yes, then good for you—it’s one of the most effective ways to draw traffic to your website. If your answer is no, let’s talk for a minute.
One of the best ways to draw people to your website is to publish fresh content on a regular basis. Your visitors will appreciate it, and search engines love it. In fact, blogs are the single most effective tool nonprofits have to drive traffic to their websites.
A blog gives you the opportunity to talk about issues related to your cause, what’s happening in your organization, introduce people you’ve served or tell success stories about people you’ve helped—and the bonus is, fresh content attracts search engines. Publishing a new post once a week (on average) will help you create a dynamic and engaging feel to your website, and it will get more people talking about you. It’s a win-win.
The other upside to having a blog is that it gives you content that you can feed into your social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Think about it—every time you write a blog post, you post a link on Facebook, tweet about and promote it on LinkedIn. All these channels lead people directly to your website. It’s a great way to drive traffic. Plus, it gives you a platform to regularly discuss what’s near and dear to your heart: your cause.
A word to the wise about blogging—if you decide to give it a try, I recommend a team blog rather than trying to go it alone. Team blogs are more than twice as likely to survive more than a year.
